Synopsis of Incident:
On Sunday, April 30th, 2023, at approximately 1635 hours, a Sunline bus was traveling from Palm Desert to Palms Springs. While traveling, the driver noticed a young male passenger smoking something near the rear of the bus. The driver announced over the pa system for the male to stop, but the male refused. At the next scheduled stop in Cathedral City (B Street transfer area), the driver requested the assistance of another driver to help with having the male exit the bus.
With Cooperation from a second driver, they were able to get the male to exit. Once outside the bus, a physical altercation occurred between one of the drivers and the male. During the altercation, the male retrieved a knife from his rear pocket and stabbed the driver in the left torso. The incident was immediately reported, and officers responded to the scene. On arrival a search for the suspect was conducted, however he was not located. Cathedral City Fire Department treated the injured driver and eventually transported the driver to Desert Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. Officers identified the suspect as a local unhoused male and are actively searching for him.
