Arrest of Homicide suspect from CCPD case 8-19-19
On August 19, 2019 at approximately 0052 hours, Cathedral City Police Dispatch received 911 calls, regarding a disturbance in the area of the 68300 Block of Madrid Road. Cathedral City Police officers responded to the area (arriving at 0101 hrs.) and found an adult male (later identified as Alberto Alvarez) on the street/sidewalk area suffering from an undetermined number of gunshots to his body. CCPD officers started immediate life-saving efforts until Cathedral City Fire Paramedics responded to transported him to Desert Regional Medical Center for emergency medical care. Continue reading→
Press Release – PACT 1908P-4107
On August 22, 2019, at approximately 0701 HRS., Officers and Investigators from the Coachella Valley Post-Release Accountability Compliance Team (PACT) were attempting a warrant service at a location known as the Marquis Villas Resort, in the City of Palm Springs. While officers were attempting entry into the hotel room, a fleeing occupant fired a round from a shotgun, while inside of one of the rooms. Officers secured all occupants of the residence and found no one injured. After completing their investigation, they were able to determine the person with the shotgun, discharged a round accidentally, into the wall of the interior of a bedroom, almost striking another occupant in another room. On August 18, 2019, at approximately 1848 hours, Cathedral City Police Dispatch received multiple 911 telephone calls reporting gunshots heard in the area of Aliso Road near Avenida Juarez and Avenida Del Yermo. Cathedral City Police responded to the area (arriving at 1850 hours) and found an adult male suffering from an unknown number of gunshots to his body. Cathedral City Fire Paramedics responded to assist, however, the male succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Cathedral City Police Detectives were notified and arrived to assist. The incident is being investigated as a homicide and is in progress at this time. Vehicle Pursuit and Self-inflicted Gunshot / #1908C-0183
On 8/1/19 at 5:51 PM, CCPD Officers were dispatched to a residence in the 68400 block of Espada Road regarding a despondent male possibly threatening suicide. Officers arrived and contacted family members of a 58-year old Cathedral City resident. The male was not at location. The family was concerned about their relative, who left the residence with a firearm. The family was concerned about his emotional state and felt he may be a danger to himself. Abc Grant Kickoff Press Release 19-20
Acting Cathedral City Police Chief Anthony Yoakum announced today that the Cathedral City Police Department has been awarded a $25,000 grant from the California Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) to battle alcohol-related crime. “This is important to the city in order to increase protection for youth and to shut down problem locations that have contributed to an increase in crime,” Yoakum said. The grant is one of many awarded in California to local law enforcement agencies through ABC’s Alcohol Policing Partnership Program. Continue reading→
