Synopsis of Incident:

Eduardo Luis Espinoza

On March 24, 2023, at approximately 0900 hours, Cathedral City Police Dispatch received a tip from a citizen reference a suspect who had failed to appear in court for his recent court case. The suspect was identified as Eduardo Luis Espinoza, a 33-year-old Cathedral City resident. Espinoza had been arrest in connection with a robbery/kidnapping from June of 2021. Espinoza failed to appear in court on Tuesday for the kidnapping case and an arrest warrant was issued for his arrest.

The citizen who contacted Cathedral City Police was able to provide Espinoza’s location. Cathedral City Police Detectives began to investigate the lead into Espinoza’s failure to appear and his location. Detectives were able to confirm Espinoza was wanted for the 2021 kidnapping/robbery case. Detectives further were able to confirm Espinoza’s location as being in Mexico.

Cathedral City Police Detectives began to work with local authorities in Mexico to locate and arrest Espinoza. At approximately 1830 hours, with the assistance of local authorities in Mexico, Cathedral City Police Detectives were able to take Espinoza into custody for his felony warrant at the border crossing in Calexico California. Espinoza was transported to Riverside County Jail in Indio for booking an holding on the Kidnapping case as well as an additional felony warrant for weapons charges out of Palm Springs for 2018 Palm Springs Police Case.

Cathedral City Police Detectives would like to thank the citizen and the local authorities in Mexico who aided and assisted in apprehension of Espinoza.
