On December 16, 2019 at about 6:20 PM, a 16-year-old male juvenile called the Cathedral City Police Department (CCPD) to report he had been “jumped” and robbed by a group of unidentified males, near Ocotillo Park located at 33300 Moreno Rd. He reported being surrounded by a group of at least ten males, who forcibly took his cellular phone and assaulted him. CCPD officers started their investigation at the scene of the robbery and contacted witnesses in the area. Officers were able to identify a group of males in the park as some of the males involved in the robbery and coordinated efforts with additional officers to detain the group.

On 12-3-19, a resident reported the recording of suspicious activity, via RING doorbell camera, occurring at 10:00 PM on 12-2-19. The resident reported the incident to the Cathedral City Police Dept. who documented the incident and forwarded the information to CCPD’s Crime Analyst for distribution to other police agencies. Upon initial review by CCPD and other agencies – this is NOT a police officer.

On 12/02/2019 the Palm Springs Police Department (PSPD) was notified of a possible cyber-threat made on a social-media posting. The post depicted what appeared to be a handgun displayed by a male juvenile and was accompanied by verbal threats indicating the male wanted to shoot people at or near Palm Springs High School. During the investigation, the person making the threats was identified as a 17-year-old Palm Springs High School student and a resident of Cathedral City. The Cathedral City Police Department (CCPD) was notified of the incident and started conducting the primary investigation into the post. The Palm Springs Police Department and Palm Springs Unified School District aided in the investigation.

Officers and CCFD responded and located a pick-up truck on fire. At the same time, an unknown amount of propane tanks in the vehicle ignited and exploded.

At approximately 1500 hrs., a Cathedral City Police officer saw a vehicle occupied by a wanted felon in the area of Ramon Rd and Gene Autry Trail. (The wanted felon was the driver of the vehicle; he was considered a parolee at large and wanted as a suspect in at least two other felony incidents in Cathedral City. He was wanted for his involvement in an assault with a firearm and a separate incident last night in which he was driving a stolen vehicle and led officers on a vehicle pursuit.) The officer attempted a traffic stop but the driver failed to yield, which led to a vehicle pursuit, northbound on Gene Autry Trail. At the intersection of Artisan Way, in the City of Pam Springs, the driver failed to yield for traffic at a red signal light and collided with at least two other motorists in the intersection. The driver then fled on foot along with two unidentified males who also fled from officers.

On Nov 1, 2019 at approximately 0552 hrs., Cathedral City Police (CCPD) and the Cathedral City Fire Dept. responded to the area of 30th / Landau for a vehicle versus pedestrian collision. Officers discovered a 65-year old male suffering from injuries. The male pedestrian was walking on the sidewalk when he was struck by a vehicle that left the roadway. The driver of the vehicle returned to the roadway and drove away without stopping. The male pedestrian suffered major injuries to his lower legs and was treated at the scene by Cathedral City Fire Paramedics and transported to a local hospital for further medical treatment.

On October 4, 2019, at approximately 2315 hours, Cathedral City Police Dispatch received multiple 911 telephone calls reporting gunshots in the 32500 Block of Navajo Trail, Cathedral City. More calls to the police were received at 2316 reporting a shooting incident at that location. Cathedral City Police responded to the area (arriving at 2320 hours) and found two adult males on a residential sidewalk, suffering from an unknown number of gunshot wounds. Cathedral City Fire Department Paramedics responded to assist, began emergency-medical treatment and transported both shooting victims to Desert Regional Medical Center (DRMC). Unfortunately, one of the victims has succumbed to his injuries at the hospital and has been pronounced deceased. That victim has been positively identified as Jaime Antonio Monjaraz, 23, of Desert Hot Springs, CA.
