On July 28, 2019, at approximately 0345 hours, Cathedral City Police responded to numerous calls of gun shots heard in the area of Mission Dr./ San Antonio. Several officers responded to the area and arrived within minutes of the initial call(s). Officers began an intensive search and located the victim of the shooting at the listed intersection. The victim indicated he was in the area when his vehicle was shot at numerous times. The victim was struck during the shooting and sustained a non-life-threatening injury to his upper torso. The victim was transported to Desert Regional Medical Center by CCFD. Officers continued to search the area for a dark colored sedan occupied by at least three unidentified males, however they were unable to locate anyone involved.

Rio Vista Elementary
On June 6, 2019, at approximately 0855 hours, Cathedral City Police received a call of a subject armed with a handgun seen in the desert area north/west of the Rio Vista Elementary School. Several officers responded to the area and began and intensive search to locate the described subject. On arrival at the school, the watch commander informed school staff, and as a precaution the school was placed on lockdown. Officers continued to search the area and located the subject in the 26700 block of Rio Bolsa. The subject was momentarily detained and found to be in possession of a BB gun. It was later determined there was no crime and the subject was released. The school was informed of the detention and resumed normal school operation shortly after 09:20 am.

On June 2, 2019, at approximately 0156 hours, Cathedral City Police received a 911 call from the area of 68100 Ramon Rd. The caller was the security guard at Guatemala Grill (a restaurant/nightclub at that location). The callers reported a customer had taken his gun from a security guard and shot a female in the parking lot of the business. Cathedral City Police responded, started a criminal investigation and learned the following: The bar was closing for business and the armed, private-security guard became involved in a physical fight with a number of patrons. During the altercation, the security guard was disarmed by a male patron, inside the business. The suspect walked outside with the security guard’s gun as the security guard followed and called 911 but was threatened by the suspect to drop his phone or he would be shot. A second dispute began outside the business between other patrons. During this dispute, the suspect involved himself in the altercation and pistol whipped one female patron and shot another female patron in the upper torso. The suspect and others flee in a vehicle, which is followed by witnesses who called 911 as followed. Cathedral City Police officers track the vehicle to the AM/PM gas station at Palm Rd. and Paul Rd. in the area of Interstate 10 and unincorporated area of Riverside County. Along with assistance from Palm Springs Police Department and Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, the suspect, all involved parties and the outstanding pistol are located. The shooting victim was treated at a local hospital – no further info is available on her condition at this time.

On 5/31/19 at 0204 hours, CCPD Officers were dispatched to a single vehicle collision at Vista Chino and Landau Blvd. Upon arrival officers discovered a 2019 Toyota Supra collided into the southeast traffic signal pole, causing significant damage to the front and driver’s side of the vehicle. CCFD Paramedics were dispatched to the collision, however, the male driver, Isaac Gallardo, 19 years old from Cathedral City was pronounced deceased at the scene. The passenger, a 20-year old female from Cathedral City was transported to the hospital where she was treated and later released. CCPD traffic investigators are completing their investigation which has revealed the driver was eastbound on Vista Chino and collided with a large traffic signal pole at the south/east portion of the intersection.

The Cathedral City Police Department Special Operation Section along with Agents of the California Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) have arrested a 21-year old female for selling alcohol to a minor on May 22, 2019. The actions were the result of a minor decoy operation in which minors under the direct supervision of department agents, attempted to purchase alcohol from several retail licensees in the City of Cathedral City.

On May 13, 2019, at approximately 2005 hours, Cathedral City Police received 911 calls from citizens reporting gunshots heard in the 67100 Block of Santa Barbara Drive. Cathedral City Police Officers responded to the scene and located a male suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Cathedral City Fire/Paramedics arrived on scene and began emergency medical treatment. Unfortunately, lifesaving efforts were unsuccessful and the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. Cathedral City Police Detectives responded to the scene and have initiated a homicide investigation.

On Saturday, April 20, 2019, at 2:10 A.M. Cathedral City Police officers were dispatched to a traffic collision in the 28400 block of Date Palm Drive. Upon arrival, they determined a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle in the northbound lanes of Date Palm Drive. The pedestrian, a 29-year old male from Banning CA, succumbed to his injuries at the scene. At this time, his identity will not be released, pending notification of next of kin.
