Fireworks
As your police chief, it is my pleasure to report to you that our city experienced significantly less illegal fireworks activity this past Fourth of July holiday than in the previous year. In reviewing all calls for service related to illegal fireworks between July 1, 2021, and July 6, 2021, the police department received and responded to 156 fireworks calls. This is significantly much less than the 708 calls for service in the same time period back in 2020. Continue reading→
DUI/Driver License Checkpoint
The Cathedral City Police Department will be conducting a DUI/Driver License Checkpoint on September 4, 2021, within the city limits of Cathedral City, between the hours of 7:00 p.m. and 3:00 a.m. Checkpoint locations are chosen based on a history of DUI crashes and arrests. The primary purpose of checkpoints is not to make arrests, but to promote public safety by deterring drivers from driving impaired. Continue reading→
Press Release Traffic Collision 2108-5582
On August 25, 2021, at approx. 0018 hours, Cathedral City Police Department (CCPD) officers were dispatched to a traffic collision on Ramon Road / Cathedral Canyon. Officers arrived on the scene and found two vehicles with major damage and five occupants with severe injuries. Officers learned the driver from the other vehicle fled on foot from the scene. Cathedral City Fire personnel responded and transported the injured victims to local hospitals. Cathedral City Traffic team responded and took over the investigation. Continue reading→
Press Release Assualt With Deadly Weapon 2108-5535
On August 24, 2021, at approx. 1834 hours, Cathedral City Police Department (CCPD) officers were dispatched to the area of Date Palm and Dinah Shore regarding a victim that was assaulted with a firearm. Officers located the suspect vehicle and a vehicle pursuit ensued. The suspect vehicle came to a stop on Canyon Vista s/of Ramon Road and three juveniles ran from the vehicle. The driver was immediately detained and a short time later a second suspect was located. A perimeter was established and after a lengthy search the third suspect was not located. Continue reading→

This morning I met with PSUSD Superintendent Dr. Mike Swize and other Law Enforcement stakeholders to discuss the School Resource Officer program in the district. The meeting was productive and demonstrated we share the same common values of ensuring the health and safety of the students, faculty, and visitors within the Palm Springs Unified School District campuses. Police Chief George Crum’s Statement on SRO Program at PSUSD
The Cathedral City Police Department’s School Resource Officer (SRO) program has enjoyed a long-standing relationship with the Palm Springs Unified School District that dates back to 2000. Over the last two decades, Cathedral City Police Department has had a police officer assigned to meet the needs of students, staff, and visitors.
