On May 13, 2019, at approximately 2005 hours, Cathedral City Police received 911 calls from citizens reporting gunshots heard in the 67100 Block of Santa Barbara Drive. Cathedral City Police Officers responded to the scene and located a male suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Cathedral City Fire/Paramedics arrived on scene and began emergency medical treatment. Unfortunately, lifesaving efforts were unsuccessful and the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. Cathedral City Police Detectives responded to the scene and have initiated a homicide investigation.
At this time, there are residential roadways closed in the area: Santa Barbara east to San Luis Rey and San Antonio to the west. Road closures are anticipated through the early morning due to police activity.
The identity of the deceased is not for release. Positive identification of the victim and notification of next of kin is being handled by the Riverside County Coroner’s Office.
