Synopsis of Incident
On September 4, 2021, at about 2:49 a.m. CCPD Officers and CCFD Fire personnel were dispatched to a structure fire in the 32600 block of Sky Blue Water Trail. CCPD Officers arrived first and found a house on fire that was fully engulfed. One occupant of the home was outside the structure and advised his roommate was still inside the house. Officers jumped a fence in an attempt to gain access into the house through a back door but were unable to make entry into the home due to the excessive heat and smoke. CCFD Fire personnel arrived and immediately began fighting the fire. Ultimately, fire personnel located a deceased victim inside the structure. CCPD Detectives and Arson investigators were called out to investigate the incident. They were assisted by CCFD and the Riverside County Coroner’s Office. At this point, the origin of the fire is still under investigation by CCPD/CCFD Arson Investigators.
The victim’s family has been notified of his passing by the Coroner’s office. The victim was identified as Kyle Humphrey, a 58-year-old resident of Cathedral City.
