Fireworks

As your police chief, it is my pleasure to report to you that our city experienced significantly less illegal fireworks activity this past Fourth of July holiday than in the previous year. In reviewing all calls for service related to illegal fireworks between July 1, 2021, and July 6, 2021, the police department received and responded to 156 fireworks calls. This is significantly much less than the 708 calls for service in the same time period back in 2020.

Community Update

2020 was a year like none of us in Public Safety have ever seen or experienced. Many cities across the nation faced a significant increase in violent crimes yet decreases in property crimes. On the other hand, many cities experienced significant reductions in both violent crimes and property crimes.

Community Update

Between October 2019 and November 2020, the Police Department’s Communication Center handled 809 calls for service related to Short-Term Vacation Rentals. In reviewing the calls for service by both the Police and Fire Departments, the average time an officer spent on each call for service to an STVR was 21 minutes and 46 seconds. The average time our Fire personnel spent on each call for service was 37 minutes and 46 seconds.

Community Update

The first few months of the year have been an exciting time for your police department.  In our continuing efforts to provide the community with progressive and professional police services, we have been able to add personnel to our staff to deal with increasing demands.  We celebrated our newest staff members with a small ceremony, where we were able to learn more about each of them and share a meal.
