On 4/19/21 at 0143 hours, CCPD Officers were dispatched to a single-vehicle collision at E. Palm Canyon and Date Palm Drive. Upon arrival officers discovered a 2006 Volkswagen Jetta collided into the southeast traffic signal pole, causing significant damage to the vehicle. CCFD Paramedics were dispatched to the collision and transported the male driver who was ejected from the vehicle to Desert Regional Hospital. The driver was responsive on the scene; however, he is listed in critical condition at this time. CCPD traffic investigators are on scene and completing their investigation which has revealed the driver was eastbound on E. Palm Canyon at a high rate of speed and collided with a large traffic signal at the south/east portion of the intersection. The preliminary investigation revealed speed and alcohol may have been factors in this collision. The roadway is closed for some time until the investigation is completed.
